Java ON the Desktop A list of regular end-user desktop applications created with Java.
This list is new as of 07-2007; applications are added as I run across them. If you know of any others please let me know.
'The Java Desktop' is a framework for building MDI (multiple document interface) applications independent of any host operating system components. MDI is just a fancy term to describe an environment where the main application hosts one or more windows that cannot move outside of its main window. Any application that allows you to view and work on multiple documents at once is a MDI application. Examples are spreadsheets, word processors and many others. The use of the phrases 'Java Desktop' and 'Java on the Desktop' are very confusing to some. Java on the Desktop refers to regular applications or programs that everyone is familiar with such as Nevitium. Many regular Java desktop applications are created with The Java Desktop framework; one example is JAlbum.
